It’s no secret that when Pearl Jam pulls into the South Jersey/Philly area, there’s no telling what’s gonna go down—except for a show that will rock the house and surely be talked about for a long time. Sure enough, night 1 in Camden on this Thursday evening is one of those. “Hard To Imagine” once again finds itself opening the show, paving the way for the band’s typical assault of hard paced songs to follow, which on this night include “Severed Hand,” “Do The Evolution” and the tour premiere of “In Hiding,” with the 20,000 plus crowd singing the chorus at the top of their lungs.Producing another set list that not only spans their catalog, but has a fine spattering of tour breakouts and rarities, the band and crowd energy tonight was consistently feeding off one another on “Who You Are,” “Grievance,” “U” and “Rats.” The encore sets only had more of the same madness in store, from the “Love Reign O’er Me” to the fan faves “State Of Love and Trust,” “Black” and “Leash.” Capping off a beautiful night where the weather was perfect, the moon was rising high, and Eddie Vedder was in a very conversational mood, the final encore started with “No More” from the Body Of War soundtrack. With Eddie performing solo acoustic and relaying the current situation of former soldier Thomas Young (for whom the song was written), the intensity and urgency of this tune only gets more vital with each rendition. If you’re still questioning whether you need this show or not, the over the top versions of “Crazy Mary” and “Porch” will definitely put any wondering to rest. Simply put, the band kicked some major ass tonight.
