Pearl Jam
Mansfield, MA 6/30/08

Going out with a definitive thunder, Pearl Jam wound up their 13-show Summer tour on this Monday night in Mansfield, Massachusetts, with a performance that if not as good as it gets, then certainly leaving you wanting more and anticipating future gigs. Once again, the Boston area fans showered the night with an unrelenting wave of energy, and the band immediately fed off it and pounded it right back at us. Opening the show with the not too often heard “Wash,” you knew off the bat we were in store for one hell of a night. The thrashing barrage of hard driving songs that followed surely proved that, with “Last Exit,” “Animal” and the tour breakout of “MFC” providing some early and often climaxes.

Continuing to dig into the catalog, the Lost Dog “Education” came off real good at this show and “Satan’s Bed” was given a great welcome back by both band and crowd. Driving this highly stimulating set to a close were awesome versions of “Whipping,” “Glorified G” and “Do The Evolution.” Taking the stage for the encore portion of the night, Eddie Vedder was joined at first by only Jeff Ament on acoustic guitar for “Bee Girl,” which only added to the uniqueness of the evening. Wonderful treatments of “Who You Are,” “Garden” and the emotionally powerful ‘Mamasan Trilogy’ of “Once,” “Footsteps” and “Alive” really brought the house down. A finale of “Rockin’ In The Free World” with opening act Ted Leo and the Pharmacists joining in on the fun brings the show to a close, and while you can’t see it on this bootleg, you’ll just have to trust in the fact that Stone Gossard was indeed sucking on the udder of a cow on stage during this completely over the top tour ender!
